July 6th Fishing Report
Fishing around the Gulf Coast has been very good so far this summer. Bottom fishing has been on fire with big Red snapper being caught off of many public spots. Including the army tanks just west of Pensacola off the Alabama coast with numerous 15 to 20 pound fish caught. Live bait is around making it easy to catch bigger Amberjack by getting some hardtails on your way out. Blue water fishing has been good but just a long way offshore. There is a nice push of water just south of the Double Nipple holding plenty of Dolphin,Wahoo and Tuna. A few Blue and White marlin out there as well. Some Swordfish are being caught around the spur using squid or live hardtails for bait. Pensacola bay is holding a numerous amount of fish from speckeled trout, flounder, redfish, white trout, sheepshead, spanish mackerel and red snapper just to name a few. Specks and redfish can be found in the sounds and grass flat areas and the sheepshead and white trout around the local bridges. Spanish Mackerel will hold around the bridges and around the bay following schools of bait. Red snapper can be found on a few of the smaller wrecks in the bay in around 30ft. of water. Some of those areas are just east of the old Ft. Pickens pier and will hold grouper as well.
